Batul & Hussain : Rooted in Faith, Bound by choice | A Bohri Wedding in Mumbai

Fifteen years of knowing each other, five years of loving each other, and a lifetime of choosing the same person, again and again.
Batul was quiet, reserved, almost unreadable. Husain was everything she wasn’t — loud, persistent, impossible to ignore. He knew early. She didn’t. Not until somewhere between distance, fights, and time, she realised she did.
What followed wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t easy. But it was certain.
A freezing evening in Ladakh, a song playing, a camera rolling under the excuse of a reel, and in a moment she never saw coming, he got down on one knee by Pangong Tso.
No grand declarations needed. Just a quiet, unwavering promise:
No matter what, we don’t walk away.
Their wedding at the Taj Mahal Palace was deeply rooted in Bohri traditions. Instead of conventional pre-wedding functions, the celebrations centred around rituals like the Darees and Majlis — intimate, prayer-led gatherings where families come together, religious sermons are shared, and blessings are offered for the couple’s union. These ceremonies are quiet, structured, and deeply meaningful, reinforcing the idea that marriage is not just a celebration, but a spiritual commitment witnessed by the community.
Each ritual unfolded with simplicity and intention — from the gathering of close family members to the collective prayers and moments of reflection that define Bohri weddings. With minimal decor and no performative elements, the emphasis remained on faith, togetherness, and the sanctity of the union, making every moment feel grounded, personal, and significant.
